In 2019 Google announced the beta release of a new Cloud Healthcare API, which was intended to bridge the gap between on-site healthcare systems and applications hosted on Google Cloud. The company is now expanding the analytical power of this offering through the release of Google Cloud Healthcare Data Engine.
This new product leverages the Cloud Healthcare API’s FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) support and HL7v2 communication protocols in order to streamline data standardization for use in Google BigQuery.
A Google representative stated earlier this week that:
"What we see out in the market, historically organizations have relied on enterprise data warehouses... to do this kind of retrospective analytics, but today's use cases need less data latency, they need to make faster sense of this proliferating data,"
By relying on APIs, Google is able to provide partners with the kind of low-latency data analysis that is required in the industry. Additionally, Google announced a list of initial partners that include Deloitte, Maven Wave, Quantiphi, and SADA.
